Read aloud
No screen reader needed: the app speaks the selected cell and each move with your phone's voice. Hold a cell to hear its row, column and box.
Accessibility
Box Brain Sudoku works with VoiceOver from the first screen to the last digit. There is help for low vision, colour blindness, hearing loss and motion sensitivity too, and every bit of it is free.
Set the app up for how you see and hear it. You can change any of this later in Settings.
Offered on the very first screen of the app, on Home, and in Settings › Accessibility.
With VoiceOver, every cell says where it is, what it holds and the clues around it, like a Killer cage's total and how much it still needs. Swipe up or down on a cell for its actions: read its row, column or box, or enter, note and erase a digit, without seeing the board.
Try it here. Tap a cell or move with the arrow keys, then read a row, column or box. The words are the ones the app speaks.
| Swipe left or right | Moves from cell to cell and reads each one |
|---|---|
| Swipe up or down | Picks an action: Read row, Read column, Read box, a digit, or Erase |
| Double-tap | Does the action |
Turn on just what helps. Each one works on its own or with the others.

Bigger numbers in the grid
The app follows the text size, bold text and contrast set on your phone.
Black on white with bold lines and big digits. Free for everyone.
A ring on the selected cell, dashed rings on hint cells and a symbol on each colour mark
The screen edge flashes on a mistake and when you finish a row, column, box or puzzle, with or without sound
A light tap on each entry, a firmer one on a mistake, a double tap when you finish a row, column or box
Soft sounds for entries, mistakes and solves. Quiet when your phone is on silent.
Turn on Reduce Motion on your iPhone or iPad and the board stops sliding and bouncing. Everything still works the same.
Nothing in the game depends on telling colours apart. Turn on shapes and the selected cell gets a ring, hint cells get dashed rings, and each colour mark carries its own symbol.
Make puzzles as a .brf file for a braille embosser or a braille display, or a PDF of raised dots for swell paper. Classic, Diagonal, Hyper and Anti-Knight, from easy to hard, each with its answer. In the app, or right here on the website.
No. Every accessibility feature, Read aloud and braille sheets are in the free version, and always will be.
All twelve. Each cell reads its own clues too: a Killer cage's total, arrows, thermometers, dots, greater-than signs, even and odd cells, and Sandwich sums.
Either. Read aloud is for when you want the board spoken but not the whole phone. When VoiceOver is on, Read aloud stays quiet so the two never talk over each other.
On the first screen when you open the app, on Home, and any time in Settings › Accessibility.
We build it to work with a keyboard and a screen reader, at any text size and with Reduce Motion. If anything gets in your way, please tell us.
Accessibility is never finished. If something is hard to use, or a feature would make the game better for you, we want to hear it.
